THE ACTIVITIES

WOMEN WHO BUILD has focused its efforts in maintaining itself continuously active from the time it was developed to the present day, in such a way that our project has grown, acquiring greater importance and credibility day by day. The line of work has concentrated on: Creating a name on a National level and currently expanding to an International level. Achieved by a network of women architects and professionals committed to the world of construction, interested in the development of a collective project.

 

The compilation of 200 pieces of work carried out in Spain by women architects or teams that partcipated and played significant roles. The work carried out was then collected and developed into five volumes titled: ¨The house, a space for intimacy¨, ¨The human dimension, in public buildings¨, The space of social communities,¨ Creating over the created¨and ¨ The meaning of Place¨. The volumes also included blueprints, photographs, descriptive reports and reflections by the authors on professional practice. (Not yet published).

 

Coordinating, organizing and supervising the past I,II III, IV, V, VI  Encounters in Architecture at Alcalá University and ETSAM, as well as the Acts: Women Who Build the Architecture of XXIst century, The Mediterranean Plazas for Women & Peace, Architettura al Femenile, Women Who Build in the Mediterranean, City and Women 3rd Act:Space, time and conciliation: what is left to do, 4th act Women and City: The Inhabitable City and 5nd Workshop Woman and City.  Architects following utopia: Habitable spaces within the city? Government Area of Employing and Services to Citizenship. Assembly Hall of Jose Ortega y Gassets´s Foundation. (Madrid 2005). Coordination of the course: City and Environment: a place to live in. Over one hundred conference-goers from different geographical, ideological and cultural areas from several countries within the Mediterranean Shores (Spain, Italy, France, Tunisia, Greece, Algeria and Egypt) and Latin America had partcipated among them another one hundred students.

 

Publication of three books containing the speeches from the Encounters (Community of Madrid, 1999, 2000 & 2002). Publication of Building from the Inside Exhibition Catalogue (Ministry of Public Labour, 2000) and the two additional catalogues: one for the Exhibition in Beirut and one for the Exhibition in Rome. Publication of the book containing the speeches from the City and Women 3rd Act:Space, time and conciliation: what is left to do

Design and ownership of the itinerant exhibition titled, "Building from the inside. An imaginary journey through the poetry of built spaces", compiles the work of thirty-nine female architects from three different generations carried out in Spain and or by teams that had a significant role in the work including seven Lebanese women architects, five Italian, five French and seven Dutch. Design and ownership of the itinerant exhibition "Building in Parity". In collaboration with the Andalusian Women Institute

WOMEN WHO BUILD has taken part in different congresses, meetings and courses organised by different Universities, Town Councils and national and international Institutions. It also publishes articles in specialized journals, etc

WOMEN WHO BUILD belongs to the advisory commitee of Menhir Magazine of Architecture and stone construction, and has been member of the jury for the Young Architects Menhir prizes held in 2001.
