4th ENCOUNTER IN ARCHITECTURE: THE MEDITERRANEAN HOUSE

Alcalá University, Madrid
May 5th to the 7th, 2000.

This new encounter was planned and organized around two principal ideas: the role culture and tradition plays as a meeting and supporting point, in its actualization of architecture for the future; and the woman, a singular protagonist of a space, a space that in a special sense has always belonged to her: the house, our daily universe and a place for intimacy.

In order to receive a lesson on Mediterranean culture, we embarked in the first International spring course of its kind, with the objective to venture into an exciting journey with our special compass in hand directed to the future, stopping at beautiful and bright harbours in Greece, Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Barcelona and the East coasts of Spain... In them uncovering new thoughts about the house, architecture and art, all understood as "not just an ordinary search but a capability to produce melted pieces of our present and past, an essence of a kind of culture".
