the 5 elements:

EARTH

Women who build keeping contact with earth

“In the beginning of all things, Mother Earth emerged out of Chaos…” (Robert Graves. The Greek Myths)

My soul is fashioned out of earth, tenderness and melancholy”. (Rozanov)

The element EARTH gives us our connection with the roots of being, with the conscious, the objective and the tangible aspects of life: with reason.

It brings us closer to the mother, to nature and to our references of the world acquired in early childhood.  And to the home, a place of intimacy and shared living, life's refuge, the universe in miniature.  The place "where all memories have their shelter", wrote Gaston Bachelard.

Earth, the building material, is shaped by women throughout the course of their existence and their experience give it form.  Building out of this attachment to the earth is to create the spaces where man has a shared dwelling.  Thus building is synonymous with dwelling.

Women's internal world, welcoming and all-embracing in feeling and perceiving, is a fabric nourished by the earth from which women are born.  This earth is their strength and their foundation.

And it is this contact, this rooting in the earth that makes women mediators, careers, interested in the social, good at dialogue and attentive to the needs of others.

They listen...

This makes them practical, efficient, thorough and organised, dextrous, paying attention to detail and demanding high standards in their work.

All these qualities are required in the various areas of CONSTRUCTION to attain excellence and equality at work, yet giving value to difference. Because the art of construction is also the art of constructing oneself and oneself within society.

Women who build keeping contact with EARTH: women miners, quarry workers, archaeologists, carpenters, masons, plasterers, tilers, sculptresses, carvers, quality control technicians, surveyors, work supervisors, layers of floors, decorative plasterers…
